Sarah Palin Resigns

Here is the video of her resignation speech:

My take: if she is taking time off to spend with her family it is well deserved. The mainstream media has tried to destroy her and her family from the millisecond she was announced as McCain's running mate. They will never stop. If she never runs for political office again, I wouldn't blame her. She could enjoy a much happier life with her kids and grandkids than she could fighting the entire media and the left virtually single handedly.

But I think she will run for office again, and she will do it in 2012.

For all the talk of this announcement being "bizarre", it is an old play out of the Sarah Palin playbook. She was an unknown who ran for Lieutenant Governor of Alaska and came out of nowhere to come in 2nd. She took a job on the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, but soon resigned to run for Governor. None of the pundits gave her a chance, but she knocked off a sitting Republican governor in the primary, and went on to win the general election and become governor.

She's not a conventional politician, which is part of her appeal to many people.

But that's just my take. Anyone who claims to know if this was a good move, or a bad move, brilliant strategy or risky strategy is deluded. We won't know if this is successful or not until we know what Sarah does over the next 3 1/2 years....maybe more.

The concern that I (and some others) have is that she hasn't completed her first term. The people of Alaska voted her in to run the state, and she has decided that she is not going to complete that job. Regardless of political ideologies or leanings, it demonstrates a character trait that I (and others) find unsettling.
